Excellence in Education Award. The Michigan Lottery announced that Amber White, a Lapeer County teacher has received an Excellence In Education Award. She is the North Branch Area Schools BK through twelfth-grade Literacy Curriculum Director. White told lottery officials that she always wanted to be a teacher while growing up. Her favorite way of teaching is to engage students with reading, writing, and creative projects. The superintendent nominated White for the award. The Excellence In Education awards began by the Michigan Lottery in 2014 to recognize public-school educators that go above and beyond during the school year.
“When I was seven years old, I jotted down my top career choices on a piece of paper and my top choice was teaching. I am and will always be an educator first. Teaching is what I have genuine passion for and is the fabric of who I am. I came from a family that taught me at a young age that education arms you against oppression, gives you independence, and is intellectually rewarding.”

White has both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Michigan. In addition, she has been teaching for 26 years. For the last 5 years, she has been working in her current position at the North Branch Area Schools.
Excellence in Education Awards
The Michigan Lottery makes the awards weekly. The winners receive $1,500 cash, a plaque, and a grant for $500 for the school, classroom, or school district. One lucky weekly winner will also be chosen as the Educator of the Year. The prize for this award is $10,000 cash. The weekly winners are shown on news segments on FOX 17 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, WXYZ-TV in Detroit, Michigan, WNEM-TV in Saginaw, Michigan, and FOX 47 in Lansing, Michigan. The news segment featuring White will air this evening. White said she always wanted to be a teacher growing up.
